Trump calls on House committee to pass 'clean' bill to extend provisions in surveillance law
The provision allows the government to collect, without a warrant, intelligence from electronic communications by non-U.S. persons if they're believed to be outside the U.S. Trump said it's vital to the success of the U.S. on the battlefield.
President Donald Trump is asking Republicans to support an extension of a provision in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, known as FISA 702.
The provision allows the government to collect, without a warrant, intelligence from electronic communications by non-U.S. persons if they're believed to be outside the U.S.
"I am asking Republicans to UNIFY, and vote together on the test vote to bring a clean Bill to the floor. We need to stick together when this Bill comes before the House Rules Committee today to keep it CLEAN!" Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
Trump said that former FBI Director James Comey, who he referred to as a "dirty cop," used a provision in FISA to go after him in the "Russa hoax," but it was not FISA 702. And though FISA 702 could be used against him, Trump said, he supports the extension.
"I am willing to risk the giving up of my Rights and Privileges as a Citizen for our Great Military and Country! Our Military Patriots desperately need FISA 702, and it is one of the reasons we have had such tremendous SUCCESS on the battlefield," Trump said.
