Trump pushes back on Macron's claim about him leaving G7 for Israel-Iran ceasefire: 'Wrong!'
"He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire," President Trump said.
President Trump on Tuesday pushed back on French President Emmanuel Macron's claim about him leaving the G7 summit early from Canada for Washington, D.C., for an Israel-Iran ceasefire, saying he was "Wrong!"
Macron on Monday suggested to reporters at the G7 in Canada that Trump was leaving the summit early to negotiate a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, saying, “There is indeed an offer to meet and exchange.” He added that the “U.S. assured they will find a ceasefire and since they can pressure Israel, things may change.”
Trump responded to Macron's claim early Tuesday.
"Publicity seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to go back to D.C. to work on a 'cease fire' between Israel and Iran. Wrong!" Trump posted on Truth Social. "He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that. Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong. Stay Tuned!"
Israel and Iran have exchanged missile fire since Friday, when the Jewish nation attacked military and nuclear sites in the Islamic country.
