President Donald Trump said Friday that he will send his second-in-command, Vice President JD Vance, to Armenia and Azerbaijan next month to continue the United States' peace efforts in the Caucasus region.

The leaders of the two countries met with Trump last year to sign a historic peace deal that ended a decades-long conflict between the countries. The peace deal included the creation of a passage through one of Armenia's territories that was named the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity."

Trump praised the leaders of both countries for upholding the historic August peace agreement, claiming there was now "prosperity and peace" in the region as indicated in the passage.

"In February, Vice President Vance will travel to both Countries to build on our peace efforts, and advance the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity," Trump posted on Truth Social. "We will strengthen our strategic partnership with Azerbaijan, a beautiful agreement for peaceful nuclear cooperation with Armenia, deals for our great semiconductor makers, and the sale of Made in the U.S.A. defense equipment ... to Azerbaijan."

Trump did not indicate what dates Vance would be overseas, or for how long, but it comes after he visited France and Germany last February. He has also traveled to Italy, the United Kingdom, Greenland and India as vice president.
