Trump urges death penalty for alleged Charlotte train killer
Zarutska did not die immediately and the image of her cowering in terror while Brown stood over her went viral.
President Donald Trump on Wednesday called for DeCarlos Brown Jr., the alleged Charlotte train killer, to receive the death penalty following a "quick" trial.
"The ANIMAL who so violently killed the beautiful young lady from Ukraine, who came to America searching for peace and safety, should be given a “Quick” (there is no doubt!) Trial, and only awarded THE DEATH PENALTY. There can be no other option!!!" he posted on Truth Social.
His comments follow widespread outrage after video footage of Brown allegedly stabbing Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska multiple times on a Charlotte, N.C., metro car went public.
The footage appeared to show Brown sitting behind Zarutska for several minutes before unfolding a pocket knife and thrusting it into her neck. The interaction sparked almost no reaction from other passengers.
