Truth Social reports record traffic during Trump’s live response to Biden’s State of Union

Truth Social reported it experienced a record volume of traffic Thursday night as former President Donald Trump, its owner, used the platform to respond point by point to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address. 

Truth Social did not provide statistics on actual traffic but said the surge was big enough that some users experienced intermittent delays trying to get on the platform at the start of the speech.

Trump uses his platform exclusively for his social commentary, making Truth Social the only social media site that hosts content from both Trump and Biden. Biden’s campaign recently opened up an account on Truth.

Trump essentially live-blogged his responses to Biden’s speech on the platform, starting with an opening salvo on Biden starting his speech late. 

Trump fired off dozens of posts over the course of the speech, ranging from critiques of Biden’s policies (“He’s talking about Violence, but Migrant Violence is leading to the Worst Crime Wave in History!”) to recommendations to lawmakers (“Don’t shake his hand, he’s been coughing into it the entire night!”)
