Barrett appears to downplay Trump third-term talk
While her comments seemed to downplay the issue, it remains unclear whether Trump will follow through on his thus far comedic suggestion.
Supreme Court Associate Justice Amy Coney Barrett this week appeared to downplay the prospect of President Donald Trump seeking a third term as some of his aides suggest the prospect is more than a mere troll.
Trump himself has repeatedly joked about running in 2028, despite constitutional prohibitions on serving more than two terms as president. Barrett, during an appearance on Fox News, appeared to agree that the 22nd Amendment limited him to only two terms.
“Well, that’s, you know, that’s what the amendment says, right? You know, after FDR had four terms, that’s what that amendment says," she told the network's Brett Baier.
While her comments seemed to downplay the issue, it remains unclear whether Trump will follow through on his thus far comedic suggestion.
