Democrats defiant as Trump slams 'seditious' video
Trump subsequently deemed the video "seditious" and reshaped a comment calling for them to be hanged.
Democratic House and Senate members who participated in a video that President Donald Trump deemed "seditious" are defending their actions after the president reshared a post calling for them to be hanged.
"We are veterans and national security professionals who love this country and swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States," they said in a joint statement. "That oath lasts a lifetime, and we indeed to keep it. No threat, intimidation, or call for violence will deter us from that sacred obligation."
Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., Rep. Chris Deluzio, D-Pa., Rep. Maggie Goodlander, D-N.H., Rep. Chrissy Houlahan, D-Pa., and Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo., appeared in the video. That clip showed the group urging members of the military and intelligence community personnel to ignore "illegal" orders from the administration.
Trump subsequently deemed the video "seditious" and reshaped a comment calling for them to be hanged. His response prompted outrage from Democrats, many of whom deemed it a validation of the lawmakers' conduct.
"What's most telling is that the president considers it punishable by death for us to restate the law," they added. "Our servicemembers should know that we have their backs as they fulfill their oath to the Constitution and obligation to follow only lawful orders. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our duty."
