Chip Roy warns of inquiry into Texas Christian University for allegedly canceling TPUSA event

TCU denied the cancellation in a statement to the Daily Signal because, they say, the event was never booked and noted that it hosted a vigil for the late-TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk last month.

Texas GOP Rep. Chip Roy on Wednesday warned Texas Christian University (TCU) that he would open an inquiry into allegations that it decided to pull a Turning Point USA (TPUSA) event where a detransitioner was expected to speak.

The Christian school came under fire in 2023 for offering a course on “The Queer Art of Drag," which was intended to teach college students about “drag history and practices” and would have culminated in a drag show, per the Daily Signal.

Roy took to social media to warn the school of the upcoming probe after detransitioning activist Chloe Cole posted that the school decided not to host her appearance at the TPUSA event, despite holding LGBT pride events.

"Hey TCU, my friend [Chloe Cole] testified in front of the House Judiciary Committee," Roy posted on X. "Expect an inquiry as to why she’s not welcomed by you."

Cole said she will still appear at the Turning Point USA event, but that it has been moved to Birchman Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas. Cole detransitioned at 16 and now advocates against gender-affirming care for minors.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Republican, also promised to look into allegations that TCU canceled the event. However, TCU denied the cancellation in a statement to the Daily Signal because, they said, the event was never booked and noted that it hosted a vigil for the late-TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk last month.

“An outside party, not affiliated with TCU, invited an external speaker to appear on our campus on Oct. 7," the school said. "The student chapter of TPUSA then requested that TCU host the Oct. 7 event for 700 to 1,000 people. The requested space was already booked with another student event.

“We explored options and notified the group on Sept. 25 that a secure space was not available, given the short notice, but we offered to find another date or space for the event," the TCU spokesperson continued. "TCU never canceled this event, as it was never booked.”
