Trump admin seeks judicial oversight of Columbia University over antisemitism policies: report
Funding to the university was halted over allegations of not doing enough about antisemitism on campus.
The Trump administration is reportedly attempting to put Columbia University under judicial oversight over the Ivy League college's antisemitism policies.
The administration is seeking a consent decree, a legally binding agreement that's approved by a judge with the consent of all parties involved – to attempt to resolve a legal matter.
The move was reported Thursday by The Wall Street Journal, based on what the newspaper said were sources within the administration.
The reported oversight request follows the administration and the New York City university, the site of disruptive pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel protests last spring, having come to an agreement last month about Columbia changing policies related to antisemitism on campus to get $400 million in federal grants and contracts restored.
Among the agreed-upon changes are banning masks on campus, allowing security officers to remove or arrest people and the administration taking control of the department that offers courses on the Middle East.
