Trump suggests Harvard lose its tax exempt status as university rejects administration's demands
On Monday, the Trump administration froze $2.2 billion in federal grants and $60 million in contracts to Harvard.
President Donald Trump on Tuesday suggested that Harvard University lose its tax-exempt status amid an ongoing battle with Ivy League schools that he thinks have been overrun by DEI policies and anti-Semitism.
"Perhaps Harvard should lose its Tax Exempt Status and be Taxed as a Political Entity if it keeps pushing political, ideological, and terrorist inspired/supporting 'Sickness?'" Trump wrote on TRUTH Social.
On Monday, the Trump administration froze $2.2 billion in federal grants and $60 million in contracts to Harvard after it refused to comply with changes requested by the government.
Harvard, in respose, said it would not comply with the demands, despite potentially losing billions.
Some of the administration's demands included implementing merit-based hiring, reforming programs with a history of antisemitism and getting rid of "diversity, equity and inclusion" policies.
"Remember, Tax Exempt Status is totally contingent on acting in the PUBLIC INTEREST!" Trump's TRUTH post concluded.
