New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Thursday endorsed former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to be his successor, choosing the more moderate candidate over Democratic Party nominee Zohran Mamdani.

Adams, a Democrat who ran as an independent in the 2025 New York City mayoral race, dropped his bid last month. Cuomo, a Democrat also running as an independent, is facing off against Mamdani and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa in the election next month.

"I'm fighting for the family of New York," Adams said, according to Fox News. "That's why I'm here today, to endorse Andrew Cuomo, to be part of this fight, and I'm going to give him my all these next few days to make sure that Black and Brown communities, specifically, who have believed there's nothing at stake in this election for them. It is."

Mamdani said the endorsement was not surprising and accused both men of being corrupt.

"It’s no surprise to see two men who share an affinity for corruption and Trump capitulation align themselves at the behest of the billionaire class and the president himself," Mamdani said. "We are going to turn the page on the politics of big money and small ideas that these two disgraced executives embody and build a city every New Yorker can afford."

The endorsement follows Adams and Cuomo being spotted courtside together at Wednesday night's New York Knicks game just minutes after the final mayoral debate.

"Great win for the Knicks. We need to win for the city. Can't go backwards," Adams' campaign account posted on X after the basketball game with a courtside photo of him with Cuomo.
