Andrew Cuomo slams Trump admin in new campaign ad responding to DOJ probe
The probe is looking into allegations that Cuomo intentionally lied to Congress about his role in drafting a New York State Health Department report on nursing home deaths caused by the pandemic.
Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday released a new ad that is a response to reports that he is being investigated by the Justice Department (DOJ) over testimony he made to Congress.
Sources familiar with the investigation began confirming the story to news outlets on Tuesday night, which follows a referral from House Oversight Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., who has repeatedly asked the Justice Department to investigate certain statements Cuomo made to a House subcommittee investigating his handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
The DOJ and the FBI have not yet officially confirmed the investigation.
The former governor released a new 33-second ad in response to the investigation, which criticizes the Trump administration for targeting Democrats nationwide with probes, including New York Attorney General Letitia James.
“Now, they’re attacking Andrew Cuomo to interfere with New York City’s election. Why? Because Andrew Cuomo is the last person they want as mayor,” the ad narrator says. “If Donald Trump doesn’t want Andrew Cuomo as mayor, you do."
The probe is looking into allegations that Cuomo intentionally lied to Congress about his role in drafting a New York State Health Department report on nursing home deaths caused by the pandemic.
The advertisement is currently only making its rounds on social media but is expected to play on television as well, per the New York Daily News.
Cuomo is currently leading the Democratic nomination for New York City mayor. Incumbent Democrat Mayor Eric Adams is also seeking reelection, but he is running as an independent. The primary for the race will take place next month.
