Deputy chief of staff Walters leaves White House ahead of Miller’s arrival as chief of staff
Miller confirmed Walters’ departure in a statement
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Richard Walters is leaving the Trump administration as Stephen Miller prepares to take over as chief of staff, marking an early departure in an expected shake-up of the president’s senior staff.
Miller confirmed Walters’ departure in a statement to Fox News, describing him as an important member of the administration who would continue assisting the White House from outside the government.
Walters had been closely aligned with outgoing Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, whom President Donald Trump selected Miller to replace. Miller is expected to take over the position Monday and assemble his own leadership team.
Walters, a longtime Republican operative, previously served as executive director of Trump’s 2025 inaugural committee and held senior positions at the Republican National Committee. He also played a role in Trump’s three presidential campaigns.
