Texas GOP Rep. Chip Roy is reportedly considering running for state attorney general in 2026.

The Hill newspaper reported Friday, based on two anonymous sources, that Roy had toyed with the idea of running in the past.

State GOP Attorney General Ken Paxton is running for Senate against Sen. John Cornyn – which will eliminate a messy primary challenge for Paxton's open seat.

Roy has served in the House, representing the 21st district of Texas, since 2019.

“I’m always considering where I can best serve the people I represent to ensure we preserve and protect a free, secure, and prosperous Texas for generations to come," Roy told The Hill when asked for comment on the matter.

Other Republicans running for Texas attorney general are state Sens. Mayes Middleton and Joan Huffman.

The attorney general of Texas doesn't have term limits. Paxton has served in the position since 2015.
