Independent New York City mayoral candidate and former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday told reporters that he does not want President Donald Trump's support or involvement in his campaign to lead the city in November.

The former governor is running as an independent after he failed to secure enough support for the Democratic nomination during the primaries earlier this year. Socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani is the Democratic nominee and incumbent New York City Mayor Eric Adams is also running as an independent.

Cuomo said he did not know if the Trump administration was considering offering Adams a job in exchange for him dropping from the mayoral race and endorsing Cuomo as the New York Times reported, but he does not want the president's support.

“I don’t want him involved in anything with my race,” Cuomo said. “What Eric Adams chooses to do is up to Eric Adams. What Curtis Sliwa chooses to do is up to Curtis Sliwa.”

The Trump administration was reportedly considering a similar offer to Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, but both Sliwa and Adams said they are not dropping from the race.
