David Hogg's PAC to fund Democratic challengers next year remains far short of $20 million goal
Hogg made waves in April for launching a $20 million effort that supports more than a dozen primary challenges against Democratic members of Congress he accused of being asleep at the wheel.
Controversial former Democratic National Committee vice chair David Hogg's Political Action Committee (PAC) is still far from reaching its $20 million funding goal, according to the Federal Election Commission records for the month of May.
Hogg made waves in April for launching a $20 million effort that supports more than a dozen primary challenges against Democratic members of Congress he accused of being asleep at the wheel.
Records now show that Hogg's PAC "Leaders we Deserve" has just $1.5 million in cash on hand so far, and has never raised anywhere near $20 million since it was created two years ago, the New York Post reported.
The PAC also raised $848,000 last month, and spent approximately $798,000, the majority of which went to operational costs. Only $6,000 appeared to go to candidates, the outlet reported.
“David Hogg spent his spring on a kamikaze mission right towards the heart of the Party to raise money for his PAC and, as it turns out, he spent more money on consultants pitching negative stories on the Party than on candidates actually trying to run and win campaigns,” an unnamed Democratic strategist said. “That’s the definition of a grift right there, and should be a red flag for every donor, candidate, and activist that he’s already fooled.”
