Democratic Virginia governor nominee and former Rep. Abigail Spanberger raised $10.7 million in the second quarter of 2025.

Spanberger's campaign announced Tuesday that her haul is the highest amount ever raised by a statewide candidate in Virginia in the second quarter of an election year.

Nearly 75,000 contributions, 92% of donations, were $100 or less, according to the campaign. The average grassroots donation was $29.

Since the launch of Spanberger's campaign in November 2023, she has raised more than $27 million and received nearly 210,000 individual contributions.

“Across the Commonwealth, Abigail hears from Virginians who are feeling squeezed by high costs, frustrated by the chaos coming out of Washington, and are ready to elect a Governor who will put Virginia families first — not blind loyalty to a political party,” Spanberger's campaign manager, Samson Signori, said in a statement on Tuesday.

“We are incredibly grateful for this record outpouring of support. Virginians know that as our next Governor, Abigail will work every day to lower costs, strengthen our schools, protect Virginia jobs, and keep our communities safe. And over the next four months, our campaign will use every minute to make sure Abigail’s winning message reaches every community in Virginia.”

The GOP nominee, Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, has yet to release her second quarter fundraising numbers, The Hill news outlet reported. Her campaign said in April that it had brought in $3.1 million in the first quarter, setting a record for Republican candidates in the state.

Before the second quarter filing period, Earle-Sears had raised more than $9 million, and Spanberger raised more than $22 million, according to the Virginia Public Access Project.

Cook Political Report says the race is currently “lean Democratic.”
