DNC's David Hogg expresses concerns about optics as party considers redoing his election next month

If they do move forward with the redo, members would vote for a new male vice chair from June 12-14 followed by a vote for a second vice chair of any gender from June 15-17.

Democratic National Committee (DNC) Vice Chair David Hogg on Thursday urged his fellow party members not to move forward with considering a redo of his election, warning that doing so "sends a horrible message" to liberal voters.

Democrats have struggled to unify the party after the 2024 election resulted in a major blow to its power. Former Vice President Kamala Harris lost her bid for the presidency, and Republicans won control of both chambers of Congress.

Now the party is considering a redo of Hogg's election and that of another vice-chair because of a procedural complaint over the way the election was done.

Both candidates will still be allowed to seek their posts again, but Hogg has been in the center of controversy after he launched a $20 million effort last month that supports more than a dozen primary challenges against Democratic members of Congress he accused of being asleep at the wheel.

DNC members are now expected to vote electronically on whether to move forward with the redo election from June 9 -11, per Politico

If they do move forward with the redo, members would vote for a new male vice chair from June 12-14 followed by a vote for a second vice chair of any gender from June 15-17.

Hogg strongly encouraged the party to reject a redo of the election, because it would send a "horrible message" about whether the party was capable of holding an election as they prepare for the 2026 Midterms.

“If we’re to redo this election, it truly just sends a horrible message that we really do not want out there at this moment,” Hogg said. “That’s why I believe that it should not go forward.”

The vice chair also lamented that the DNC is adamant on replacing him if the election moves forward, after DNC Chair Ken Martin clashed with Hogg over his efforts to oust certain lawmakers.

Martin has since proposed a change to the party’s bylaws that would require DNC officers to remain neutral in all primaries. The proposal will be voted on in August.
