Fairfax County announced Tuesday evening that it will rescan 20,000 ballots due to issues with thumb drives containing votes from four early-voting locations in Virginia.

According to WTTG, the County Elections Department made the announcement after discovering an issue with the electronic media that was collected at in-person voting locations.

So far about 5,000 votes have been rescanned, and the county reportedly will continue rescanning throughout the night.

This announcement comes amid the closely watched gubernatorial race between Democrat Terry McAuliffe and Republican Glenn Youngkin.
