Former Yankees player Mark Teixeira announces bid for Texas congressional seat
Besides playing for the Yankees, Teixeira has also played for the Los Angeles Angels, Atlanta Braves and the Texas Rangers.
Former Yankees baseball player Mark Teixeira announced Thursday that he would be running for Congress in his home state of Texas.
"Big news: I’m ready to go!" he wrote in a post on X. "As a lifelong conservative who loves this country, I’m running for Congress to fight for the principles that make Texas and America great. It takes teamwork to win – I’m ready to help defend President Trump’s America First agenda, Texas families, and individual liberty."
Besides playing for the Yankees, Teixeira has also played for the Los Angeles Angels, Atlanta Braves and the Texas Rangers.
Teixeira will be running for the 21st district of Texas, which is currently held by Republican Congressman Chip Roy.
Roy recently announced that he would be running for Texas attorney general.
"Playing for the Texas Rangers and raising my family in the Lone Star State has been one of the greatest blessings of my life,” he said, according to the New York Post. “Now, I’m ready to answer the call to serve my country, my state, and the conservative principles that have made Texas the envy of the nation.”
