Democratic candidate Susan Crawford is projected to win the race for Wisconsin's open Supreme Court seat on Tuesday, securing majority control for the liberals after a hotly-contested election that saw MAGA heavyweights stump for the Republican.
The Associated Press called the race at 10:16 p.m. Eastern for Crawford, who leads with 55.9% of the vote, and 69% of precincts reporting. Republican Brad Schimel trailed with 44.1% of the vote.
The race marked the first statewide election in a battleground state following Trump's 2024 victory and drew national attention, not just due to its potential to gauge support for opposition to the administration, but also because of its implications for the state. The Dairy State's top court currently boasts three liberals and three conservatives, with the vacancy arising due to a liberal judge retiring.
