Michigan Senate candidate in the Democratic primary, Mallory McMorrow, suspended her campaign on Sunday.

“Today, I’m announcing that I am suspending my campaign for United States Senate. And I’m doing it with a deep, deep sense of gratitude,” McMorrow said in a video she posted to social platform X.

The move comes as she is facing low polling numbers in the race, according to The Hill

The race is for an open seat to succeed Democratic Sen. Gary Peters. McMorrow's exit from the race sets up a two-way battle between moderate Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., and progressive Abdul El-Sayed, the former director of the Department of Health, Human and Veterans Service of Wayne County, Mich.

The likely Republican candidate is Mike Rogers, who was a U.S. Representative from Michigan from 2001 to 2015 and became chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. Prior to that he had been an FBI agent and a state senator. He ran for the other Senate seat from Michigan two years ago and lost to now-Democratic Sen. Elissa Slotkin by just three-tenths of one percent, or less than 20,000 votes out of more than 5.5 million ballots cast.

The primaries will be held on August 4.
