Meghan McCain pushes back against Kamala Harris over remarks about her late father, Sen. John McCain
Arizona is considered one of the key battleground states in next month’s election. Democrats have been working hard to get Republicans to cross party lines and vote for Harris.
Meghan McCain is in something of a Twitter war over her pushback against presidential candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris invoking her dad’s name, the late Arizona GOP Senator John McCain, during a campaign appearance in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Friday.
It was a Republicans for Harris event, at which Harris told a story about an interaction she said she had with the late senator on the floor of the Senate, according to Fox News. She said that after "going after each other" at a committee hearing one day, McCain reached out to her later in the day.
"I step onto the floor of the well of the Senate later that day — we had votes — and I passed by John McCain, and he looks at me, and he says, ‘Kid, come over here. You’re going to make a great senator,’" Harris told the crowd. "True story. True story." She then called him an "incredible American hero."
But apparently Meghan McCain wasn’t buying it. "Now, I know democrats want to reinvent history and turn my Dad into any illusion you guys need him to be depending on the political moment you need to bastardize his memory for… But please don’t make me start sharing what I remember him ACTUALLY saying about Kamala Harris," McCain wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
One person tweeted back: “Why is it that you feel like you have this need for people to hate you. Seriously, it’s like you can’t take yes for an answer and thrive on hostility and conflict. As much as you say you can’t stand Trump, you’re just like him.”
She followed that up with another tweet, saying "And consider this my final warning shot, I will start spilling tea."
On Saturday, McCain continued the exchange, referring to her critics as "lunatics." "A lot of really triggered democrats in my timeline who claim they know more about my dad than well.... his daughter," she wrote. "Get a grip on reality, you lunatics."
Arizona is considered one of the key battleground states in next month’s election. Democrats have been working hard to get Republicans to cross party lines and vote for Harris in this state where border security has been a key issue as a record number of people have illegally come into the U.S. across the southern border.
