Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that he will "be one of the first people to support" Vice President JD Vance if he runs for president in 2028.

"If JD Vance runs for president, he's going to be our nominee, and I'll be one of the first people to support him," Rubio told Vanity Fair in an interview published Tuesday.

In October, President Trump suggested Vance and Rubio run together on the Republican ticket.

“We have JD [Vance] obviously — the vice president is great,” Trump said. “Marco [Rubio]’s great. I’m not sure if anybody would run against those two. I think if they formed a group it would be unstoppable.”

The Vanity Fair article quoting Rubio was the second in a two-part series focused on White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.

On Tuesday, Wiles criticized the media outlet over the article series, which cast her as a pointed critic of the Trump administration.

"The article published early this morning is a disingenuously framed hit piece on me and the finest President, White House staff, and Cabinet in history," Wiles posted on X.

"Significant context was disregarded and much of what I, and others, said about the team and the President was left out of the story. I assume, after reading it, that this was done to paint an overwhelmingly chaotic and negative narrative about the President and our team."

The article included quotes categorizing Vance as a "conspiracy theorist," claiming Trump's personality was that of an alcoholic, and labeling Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought a "zealot."

In addition to Wiles, Rubio and other administration officials spoke out against the Vanity Fair series.

"It is obvious to most people that Vanity Fair deliberately manipulated pictures and reported statements without context to try and make the WH team look bad," Rubio posted on X Tuesday. "And there is nobody more loyal or committed to President Trump’s mission than Susie Wiles. She is one of the main reasons why we have a team that works together to carry out the President’s promises to the American people."

Vance mentioned Wiles while in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, and shared a clip of his comments on her, writing on X, "The President and the entire team love Susie because she is loyal and good at her job. An extremely rare combo in the halls of power."
