GOP's Andy Ogles calls for deporting Dem lawmaker after public remarks
The exchange comes amid mounting calls for President Donald Trump to escalate his deportation efforts and has led to a number of comments questioning what it means to be an American.
Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., on Monday called for denaturalizing and deporting Rep. Delia Ramirez, D-Ill., after she made statements espousing the belief that she was a Gautemalan before an American.
"Denaturalize, deport, and kick her off Homeland Committee. We know where her allegiances lie," Ogles wrote on X.
His comments came in response to a video of Ramirez speaking at a summit in Mexico City in which she spoke Spanish.
"Yo soy Guatemalte caco mucho orgullo primero que soy Americana," she said, which translates to "I am a proud Guatemalan before I am an American."
