Wuhan's coronavirus death tolls increases by 50% after China revises numbers

The number of confirmed coronavirus deaths in the China city of Wuhan – where the virus started – has increased by 50% after government officials revised the death toll Friday. 

Wuhan officials added 1,290 deaths to the city’s earlier count of 2,579, bringing the total to 3,869. 

Officials attributed the increase to challenges in the early stages of the virus including residents dying at home and emergency services having to focus on treating victims more than logging reports, according to CNN. 

China has been accused of underreporting numbers to conceal from the rest of the world the extend of the virus in the country.

China’s overhaul death toll has increased by more than a third, as a result of the revised numbers.
