Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff, D, on Friday agreed with a constituent who called for impeaching Trump, concurring that his conduct was impeachable, but insisted that the Democrats had to retake the House in order to begin proceedings.

"There is no doubt that this president's conduct has already exceeded any prior standard for impeachment by the United States House of Representatives," he told constituents in Marietta, Ga. "He is granting audiences to people who purchase the meme coin that directly enriches him."

He further pointed to Trump's alleged defiance of federal court orders as justification, but lamented that impeachment could not occur under current circumstances.

"I have no choice but to be candid with you... the only way to achieve what you want to achieve is to have a majority in the United States House of Representatives," he said, promising to work toward flipping the House in the midterms.

Trump was impeached twice during his first term alone and acquitted by the Senate in both instances.

Republicans had harsh words for Ossoff following his remarks.

"Jon Ossoff said he's working every single day to overturn the will of Georgia voters who just elected President Trump," said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia. "It's disgusting and Georgians deserve better than a liberal resistance darling who sides with illegal immigrants and men who want to infiltrate women's sports."
