Mace campaign advisor departs, claiming lawmaker abandoned MAGA
He further suggested she was an unwitting surrogate for a possible Paul presidential campaign in 2028.
A senior consultant to Rep. Nancy Mace's, R-S.C., gubernatorial campaign has departed from the effort over what he says were Republican's decisions to break with President Donald Trump.
“My name has been used publicly, while going back on her word to pay me, to trade on my Team Trump status and to work on her behalf with the White House, and I am 100% breaking with her campaign out of loyalty to the President,” Austin McCubbin posted on X.
McCubbin was a veteran of the Trump 2024 campaign. Mace's office told Politico that he was merely irate over her refusal to pay him thousands for consulting services.
“Mr. McCubbin didn’t raise a dime for the campaign or better yet, never even bothered showing up. When he demanded $10,000 a month for ‘services’ and was told no, he ran straight to X. Good luck with that," a campaign spokesperson told the outlet.
McCubbin, however, insisted that Mace had increasingly gravitated toward Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., who typically represent the party's libertarian fringe. He further suggested she was an unwitting surrogate for a possible Paul presidential campaign in 2028.
