Mamdani leads Cuomo in NYC mayoral race by 10 points: poll
Zohran Mamdani's lead over Andrew Cuomo dropped from 20 points in Suffolk's September poll
Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani is leading former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the New York City mayoral race by 10 points, according to a new poll.
Mamdani, the 34-year-old democratic socialist state lawmaker from Queens, received 44% support among likely voters, according to a poll by Suffolk University, Fox News reported. Cuomo, who resigned his governorship in 2021 amid multiple scandals and is running as an independent in the general election after losing the primary, received 34% support in the survey.
The poll was conducted Thursday through Sunday, which was after New York City Mayor Eric Adams endorsed Cuomo in an effort to defeat Mamdani. Adams ran for reelection as an independent until he dropped out of the race last month, but his name is still on the ballot. The election is on Nov. 4.
Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa, the Guardian Angels co-founder, received 11% support in the survey, while the other four candidates on the ballot got 2%, with 7% undecided and 2% refusing to respond.
Mamdani's lead over Cuomo dropped from 20 points in Suffolk's September poll.
Suffolk University Political Research Center Director David Paleologos said that "Cuomo’s biggest gains" were among Hispanic voters and independents.
When given a second choice, Sliwa supporters preferred Cuomo over Mamdani by 36%-2%, according to the poll.
