A narrow majority of respondents to a Tuesday poll said that they believe the government shutdown should continue, while just 41% of likely U.S. voters said they disapprove of ending the shutdown.

The poll questioned 1,220 likely voters and 51% said they were in favor of the shutdown continuing, including 31% who strongly approved.

The government has been shut down since Oct. 1 after the Senate failed to pass a continuing resolution to keep it funded through Nov. 21, as only three Senate Democrats or senators who caucus with Democrats have voted for the CR. The rest keep voting to continue the shutdown until their demands are met.

Two-thirds of Democratic voters approve of continuing the shutdown while 41% of Republicans approve, as do 44% of voters not affiliated with either party.

The survey, which was conducted by Rasmussen Reports on Oct. 15-16 and Oct. 19, has a three percentage point margin-of-error.
