Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer on Wednesday took a victory lap after his party won control of both chambers of Congress and lashed out at President Trump and fellow Republicans, saying they "squandered" their majority.

"Republicans received that opportunity two years ago and completely squandered it," the New York lawmaker said on Capitol Hill. "The GOP misread Americans' demand for change as a mandate to do Trump's bidding."

Schumer, who so far has not received a challenge to return as Senate majority leader, said Senate Democrats will focus on making life more affordable for Americans. However, he also delivered a sharp warning to Trump.

"Whenever Trump defies the will of the American people or the law, we will launch investigations, take him to court, entangle him in legislative razor wire."
