Senate Parliamentarian axes parts of 'Big, Beautiful Bill'

The Senate is expected to make considerable revisions of its own to the House version of the bill.

The Senate Parliamentarian this week determined that several portions of President Donald Trump's "One Big, Beautiful Bill" Act do not comply with chamber rules to permit passage under a simple majority.

Though the House has already approved the legislation, the Senate has yet to do so, in part due to chamber requirements for legislation to be eligible for a simple majority vote, rather than subject to the 60-vote filibuster threshold.

The lower chamber has already approved some revisions at the behest of the parliamentarian, but the current round of revisions has blocked planned cuts to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, staffing at the Federal Reserve, and reductions at the Office of Financial Research, The Hill reported.

Earlier in June, House Republicans voted on "technical changes" to the legislation to comply with earlier determinations of the Parliamentarian Elizabeth McDonough. Those changes eliminated $2 billion in funding for military intelligence and defense programs.

The Senate is expected to make considerable revisions of its own to the House version of the bill.
