Alaska Airlines on Thursday night issued a temporary nationwide ground stop on all flights over an IT outage that was affecting its operations.

The cause of the outage was not immediately clear, but Alaska Airlines announced the order at 7:21 p.m. Eastern. It marks the second nationwide ground stop for the airline since July. Service in July was restored after three hours.

"Alaska Airlines is experiencing an IT outage affecting operations," the company said in a post on X. "A temporary ground stop is in place. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you're scheduled to fly tonight, please check your flight status before heading to the airport."

The order was still in effect at the time of publishing. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has not yet commented on the issue.
