Two United Airlines planes collided on the tarmac Friday night at New York City's LaGuardia Airport, while the airport experienced flight delays because of a staffing shortage and high winds.

No injuries were reported on either plane in the collision, and all passengers were safely deplaned, per the New York Post.

The collision occurred after a returning flight from Orlando was turning into its arrival gate and bumped into the tail of an outgoing plane that was waiting to fly out to Houston. The Houston flight was stationary at the time and maintenance crews are evaluating the plane for any issues.

The Houston plane was already running 90 minutes behind schedule because of delays at LaGuardia. The average delay at the New York airport is two hours and 15 minutes, though some planes have been delayed as long as five hours.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has warned travelers nationwide to be prepared for longer delays amid the government shutdown, as more air traffic controllers have called in sick because they are not being paid during the shutdown. They should receive back pay after funding is restored.

The FAA said Friday that the controller workforce is fatigued as 13,000 air traffic controllers have been forced to work without pay nationwide.

"The shutdown must end so that these controllers receive the pay they’ve earned and travelers can avoid further disruptions and delays," the FAA said. "As we continue to reiterate, we will never compromise on safety. When staffing shortages occur, the FAA will reduce the flow of air traffic to maintain safety. This may result in delays or cancellations."
