Republicans have struggled to win statewide in Arizona in the Trump era, save for the president himself.

President Donald Trump on Friday endorsed Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., for the Republican nomination for Arizona governor, ahead of the primary later this month.

"It is my Great Honor to endorse Highly Respected America First Congressman, Andy Biggs, who is running to be the next Governor of the wonderful State of Arizona, a State I won BIG!" Trump posted on Truth Social.

Republicans have struggled to win statewide in Arizona in the Trump era, save for the president himself. Gubernatorial and Senate contests have seen Trump-backed candidates fall short in recent cycles. But Trump appears well behind Biggs, a solidly conservative, if moderately more conventional candidate than some of his previous selections, such as Kari Lake.

"A very successful Civic Leader, Attorney, former State Representative, former State Senator, and now, as a distinguished U.S. Congressman (and one of the most respected of them all!), Andy has strongly served his Community with a career 'loaded up' with accolades — and WINS!" he added. "As your next Governor, Andy will work tirelessly to Grow the Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Unleash American Energy DOMINANCE, Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Illegal Aliens, Ensure LAW AND ORDER, Strengthen our incredible Military, Veterans, and Law Enforcement, Safeguard our Elections, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment."

Trump also endorsed Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., for reelection, whom he called a "MAGA warrior."
