Trump blames Steve Mnuchin for pushing Jerome Powell
Trump has repeatedly criticized Powell over his hesitance to lower interest rates, despite stable inflation and jobs numbers.
President Donald Trump on Tuesday took aim at former Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, blaming him for pushing Jerome Powell to serve as Fed chairman.
Mnuchin was notably one of the few members of Trump's cabinet in the first administration to serve in a major post for all four years.
"Jerome “Too Late” Powell must NOW lower the rate. Steve 'Manouychin' really gave me a 'beauty' when he pushed this loser," Trump posted on Truth Social. "The damage he has done by always being Too Late is incalculable. Fortunately, the economy is sooo good that we’ve blown through Powell and the complacent Board."
Trump has repeatedly criticized Powell over his hesitance to lower interest rates, despite stable inflation and jobs numbers. Thus far, however, the president has limited his criticisms to public social media posts and has not attempted to remove Powell, whose term expires in 2028.
"I am, though, considering allowing a major lawsuit against Powell to proceed because of the horrible, and grossly incompetent, job he has done in managing the construction of the Fed Buildings," he added. "Three Billion Dollars for a job that should have been a $50 Million Dollar fix up. Not good!"
