Trump urges Congress to act on health care
Trump's push comes in the wake of the government shutdown that Democrats implemented for the ostensible purpose of restoring funding to healthcare programs.
President Donald Trump on Tuesday urged Congress to act on health care in a way that empowers Americans to negotiate the cost of their plans with providers.
Trump did not specifically mention Obamacare, though his comments appear to refer to the impending expiration of increased subsidies for its plans.
"The only healthcare I will support or approve is sending the money directly back to the people with nothing going to the big, fat, rich insurance companies, who have made $1 trillions, and ripped off Americans long enough," Trump posted on Truth Social.
"The people will be allowed to negotiate and buy their own, much better, insurance," he added. "Power to the people! Congress, do not waste your time and energy on anything else. This is the only way to have great healthcare in America!!! Get it done, now."
The subsidies are set to expire at the end of the year. Trump's push comes in the wake of the government shutdown that Democrats implemented for the ostensible purpose of restoring funding to healthcare programs.
Republicans had contended that they sought to fund healthcare for illegal aliens. Ultimately, the shutdown ended without major developments on the healthcare front.
