Trump vows National Guard crackdown in Memphis

Memphis boasts the highest violent crime and property crime rates in the nation. It further boasts the third-highest murder rate.

President Donald Trump on Friday announced plans to deploy the National Guard to Memphis, Tenn., marking the first expansion of his Washington, D.C., crime crackdown to other major American cities.

"We're going to Memphis. Memphis is deeply troubled... We're going to fix that just like we did Washington," he said on "Fox and Friends" on Friday morning.

The White House subsequently released a statement confirming plans to deploy federal forces and justifying the move by highlighting the city's crime stats.
