Trump won't sign G7 call for de-escalation in Iran-Israel conflict: Report

President Donald Trump does not plan to sign a joint statement of G7 members calling for de-escalation between Iran and Israel as those nations clash over Iran's nuclear program.

The members of the G7 are in the process of drafting a joint statement as leaders of the bloc meet in Canada, though CNN reported Trump has no plans to sign it, citing "a person familiar with the matter."

Trump himself declined to discuss the prospect of American military involvement with reporters on Monday, but has urged Iran to make a deal.

He previously expressed opposition to Israeli strikes on Iran before the Netanyahu government took such action last week. Israeli officials have claimed Trump used the prospect of diplomatic talks to trick Iran and pave the way for the Israeli surprise attack.

The White House has not responded to a request for comment on that assertion.
