House passes border security bill hours before Title 42 ends

The House of Representatives passed border security legislation by a vote of 219 to 213 on Thursday, with hours to go before Title 42 expires at midnight. The bill would restart construction on the southern border wall, increase funding for border patrol and upgraded security technology, reinstate the “remain in Mexico” policy, place new restrictions on asylum seekers, and enhance requirements for the immigration status database E-Verify. The legislation is not expected to pass in the Senate and the White House has issued a threat of veto.
