Record breaking heat tops global average temperature
The global average temperature record was not broken in the past two days, but it was broken four times in the previous week, reaching a new record high of 63.01 degrees Fahrenheit on Thursday according to US National Centers for Environmental Prediction’s data. This is attributed to various factors, including land heating up faster than water, the influence of El Nino on sea surface temperatures, and the global teleconnection pattern affecting temperatures across the globe.
