Rep. Comer: The longer it takes to elect a House speaker, the harder it is to find consensus

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) says he hopes House Republicans can agree on one of the nine candidates for the GOP speaker nomination by Tuesday. “Look, speakers come and go. If you’re going to get rid of the speaker, make sure you’ve got a plan to replace that speaker,” says Rep. Comer. “Because where it stands now, I’m not sure anyone can get to 217 [votes] and that’s a problem.”
