Speaker McCarthy says it’s possible to reach agreement on debt limit by June 1

Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told reporters in Washington on Monday that he believes it’s “still possible” to reach an agreement on the debt limit by June 1. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has reaffirmed several times in recent weeks that June 1 is the “hard deadline” to raise the debt ceiling or risk a government default.
