Two American officials told the New York Times on Friday that 12 American troops were injured in an attack on a U.S. military base in Saudi Arabia, including two who were reportedly seriously wounded.

When the occurred was unclear as of Friday evening.

The U.S. and Israel began a weeks-long conflict against Iran late last month, which resulted in the death of leader Iranian Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran has retaliated by hitting U.S. bases in the Middle East and attacking Israel.

Nearly 300 American troops have been injured in the conflict so far and at least 13 have been killed.

The combined missile and drone attack on the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia is considered one of the most serious breaches of American air defenses in the conflict, the news outlet reported, and at least two U.S. refueling planes also suffered significant damage in the attack.

The identities of the U.S. troops injured in the latest attack have not been released so far.
