Trump pushes West African countries to accept deported illegals: WSJ
Third-party deportations have become an increasingly prominent tool in the administration's arsenal as it tries to deport as many as 21 million illegal aliens from the country.
The Trump administration is pressuring a group of West African nations to accept illegal aliens from the Untied States in a bid to ramp up its deportations to third-party countries, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing "an internal document and current and former U.S. officials."
President Donald Trump met with the leaders of Guinea-Bissau, Gabon, Mauritania, Senegal, and Liberia on Wednesday at the White House. Amid the meeting, however, the State Department urged them to act as third party nations for illegals whose home countries would not accept their return.
South Sudan has already become the most noteworthy third-party destination, largely due to a high-profile attempt to deport criminal aliens to the country that faced legal scrutiny. The Supreme Court has since intervened in the matter and given the administration the green light to proceed.
