China condemns US bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities, urges peace talks
China said it drafted a resolution for the UN security council in response to the U.S. bombings, which calls for an "immediate and unconditional ceasefire, protection of civilians, respect for international law, and engagement in dialogue and negotiation."
China has condemned the United States' bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend, claiming the move violated international law and the United Nations Charter.
The U.S. hit three Iranian nuclear facilities early Saturday, which were all under the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) supervision. Iran has also accused the U.S. of violating the UN's charter.
The Chinese foreign ministry said it has drafted a resolution for the UN Security Council in response to the U.S. bombings, which calls for an "immediate and unconditional ceasefire, protection of civilians, respect for international law, and engagement in dialogue and negotiation."
"China urges parties to the conflict to prevent the situation from spiraling up, make sure the fighting will not spill over, and return to the track of political settlement," Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said. "China stands ready to enhance communication and coordination with various parties to pool efforts together and uphold justice, and play a constructive role for restoring peace in the Middle East."
The statement comes after President Donald Trump warned Iran that more bombings or attacks would take place if it does not stand down. The bombings marked the U.S.' first direct actions in Israel's conflict with Iran.
