China hits US with economic measures after Trump imposes tariffs
These measures go into place Feb. 10.
Beijing announced Tuesday that it would be hitting the U.S. with economic measures following President Donald Trump imposing tariffs on China.
The measures include a 15% tax on certain natural gas and coal and a 10% tariff on crude oil, China’s Ministry of Finance announced.
These measures go into place Feb. 10, according to CNN.
The White House announced on Saturday that Trump would impose 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports and 10% on Chinese imports.
Trump cited illegal immigration, drug trafficking and the fentanyl crisis as reasons for the tariffs.
The tariffs on Mexico and Canada have been put on hold for a month as Trump spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum where they reached a deal regarding trade and security.
