The suspected lone survivor of a fatal plane crash in India on Thursday reflected on the horror he felt when he woke up on the street shortly after take-off, stating there were dead bodies all around him.

The Air India flight, which was bound for London, crashed shortly after taking off on Thursday afternoon local time. Authorities have only discovered one survivor, British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh who was seated in 11A. Approximately 203 other bodies have been recovered so far, out of at least 240 travelers on board.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner also killed others in India after it crashed into a hostel for doctors and their families, but a total death count has not been released so far.

Ramesh said that he has "no idea' how he is still alive, but someone had grabbed him and placed him in an ambulance that took him to a hospital where he has been since. It is not clear what his injuries are.

“When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me,” the man told the Hindustan Times. “Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital.”

One of Ramesh's brothers was also on the flight while on vacation with him, another brother told the New York Times
