Trump on Xi meeting: 'Much has been, and will be, accomplished'

President Donald Trump on Friday bade farewell to Chinese President Xi Jinping, who spent three days in the United States for an official state visit.

"President Xi and Madam Peng have just left D.C., heading for China. The meeting was one of Friendship, Strength, and Success, for both China and the U.S.A." he posted on Truth Social. "We will be meeting again in November, in China, and then at the G20 in December, in Miami, Florida. Much has been, and will be, accomplished. I look forward to our next meeting!"

Xi's visit saw him visit the White House, attend a state dinner, have tea with Trump, and visit the National Archives. He also announced that China would send two giant pandas to the Atlanta zoo in an extension of Beijing's "panda diplomacy."

Both heads of state remained vague on the substance of their discussions, though Trump indicated he had discussed his plan to rebrand AI from "artificial intelligence" to "super intelligence."

China and the U.S. remain at loggerheads over trade, and Chinese purchases of Iranian oil have strained diplomatic relations amid the conflict.
