Jewish-owned Toronto bagel shops targeted by gunfire and vandalism in suspected hate attacks

Toronto police are investigating two overnight attacks on locations of a Jewish-owned bagel shop chain that authorities say are being treated as suspected hate-motivated incidents.

Officers responded shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday to a Kiva’s Bagel Bar location near Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue West after receiving reports of damage to the storefront. 

Investigators found a shattered window and evidence that a firearm had been discharged at the business. No injuries were reported, according to local news sources.

Roughly 20 minutes later, police were called to a second Kiva’s location near Bathurst Street and Steeles Avenue West, where another front window had been broken. Investigators said they found no evidence of gunfire at the second location, and there were no reported injuries there.
